Construction
Information
Our design-build contractor, Shaw Energy
Delivery Services, has made
significant progress on the Narrows Crossing project. The crews have
worked simultaneously on the both sides of the water. Here's a recap of
what's happened so far.
March 2007
Final testing and site demobilization.
February 2007
Removal of old foundations and final grading.
December 2006 & January 2007
Removal of old towers was finalized.
November 2006
Removed old wires.
October 2006
New wire
installation was completed.
August & September
Henkels and McCoy, a subcontractor installed the new
wires on the towers. The team ran into some bumps along the way--the
biggest one was when a "sock line" broke as it pulled a wire across the
waterway. No one was hurt, but fixing the problem took some time.
July
Local residents watched as the construction team simultaneously built
the two, 450-foot towers on each side of the waterway. Most of the
visible construction on the new towers took place at the end of June and
July.
June
Crews poured the foundations for the supporting towers.
May
Steel for the main towers arrived on site and crews began putting pieces
of the new towers together.
April
The four foundations for each tower were poured. The main tower
foundations are 6 feet in diameter and 60-feet deep.
March
The construction team prepared the site by grading, clearing and
trimming trees.
