Cushman Hydro Project
Tacoma Power owns thousands of acres of land as part of its
hydroelectric projects that are managed for wildlife habitat. At the Cushman Hydro
Project, Tacoma Power purchased in 1994 about 800 acres of land previously known as the Nalley Ranch. To restore this land to a more natural condition, Tacoma Power removed
buildings, underground storage tanks, bridges and other structures. The land is open to
the public for bird watching, hunting and hiking.
The National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service receive funding from
Tacoma Power to manage utility-owned land near the upper end of
Lake Cushman. This area includes popular
hiking trails.
Protecting the environment and public safety are goals of Tacoma Power's
program to issue permits for docks on Lake Cushman. Information about the dock permit policy is
available by calling Tacoma Power at 253-502-8873.
