Rate Adjustment
Beginning April 4, 2005, Tacoma Power's electric rates
rose a system-wide average of 5.2 percent.
The adjustment was necessary because of higher costs to serve
customers. The key reasons include:
-
Implementing the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
hydroelectric plant licensing requirements
-
Returning to a policy of issuing bonds to fund 50 percent of
our renewal and replacement capital projects, and funding the remaining 50
percent from rates
-
Higher Bonneville Power Administration costs
-
Costs to accommodate growth, new technology based services,
and security requirements
Tacoma Power bases its rates on the cost to serve each class
of customer. Tacoma Power staff continues to strive to keep rates as low as
possible. The table below shows that Tacoma Power's new rates remain competitive
with rates of other major utilities in our region.
