expertise about the electrical energy consumption and energy costs in their
facilities. Whether you’re a building owner or tenant, you may be directly
responsible for the energy use and costs for your building. Our staff has the
experience and tools to assist you in understanding and using this electrical
energy more efficiently.

Tacoma Power can provide a detailed report of your facilities energy
consumption. This report will break out the different cost components of your
electric bill with graphs, charts, and tables. This information is often helpful
in understanding how you are currently using your power.
An energy survey examines how and where a facility uses energy, and what
you pay for that energy. It also identifies ways to reduce and better manage
your electrical power. This service can range from general information about
your facilities energy usage to identifying specific details about an individual
electrical load.

Lighting can often be a significant component of a buildings electrical
usage. In many offices lighting can account for 30% to 40% of your total
electrical consumption. New lighting technology can offer increased efficiency,
better quality lighting , longer life, and lower maintenance. We can also work
with the Lighting Design Lab in Seattle to optimize your lighting system design.
The Lighting Design Lab not only provides information on the latest technology
but also has mock-ups of the various electric lighting and daylighting systems
available.

With the increased use of electronic equipment and computers in offices
power quality is becoming more of an issue. Much of this equipment not only
creates power quality problems is also sensitive to poor power quality . Many
businesses use sensitive electronic equipment for their operations. It’s
essential that power quality is high and disturbances are minimized. Our energy
experts can perform initial investigations to help diagnose power quality
problems.

Zero-interest loans are available for energy-efficient
improvements to existing facilities. New construction
or fuel switching projects are not eligible. Project location must be served by
Tacoma Power. Project must meet Tacoma Power's cost-effective guidelines. You
must apply for the loan before your project begins. The
minimum loan amount is $1,000 and
the maximum is $500,000 or 70 percent of
the project cost; whichever is
less. The loan can be for 100 percent of the project costs if a project is
$25,000 or less, or is for a 501(c)(3) or non-profit entity. Loans must be
repaid in five years. Loans are not assumable or transferable. All loans are subject to approval by Tacoma Power.
An application and set-up of $250
is payable at time of the application. Program terms and conditions may be
