Tacoma Power provides electric service to the
city
of Tacoma, Fircrest, University Place, Fife, parts of
Steilacoom, Lakewood and unincorporated Pierce County
in Washington state.
Tacoma Power
has been publicly owned since 1893. We are a division of
Tacoma Public
Utilities
and are governed by a five-member
Public Utility
Board.
Tacoma Power also owns
Click! Network, which provides
telecommunications services such as cable television, broadband, and
wholesale internet services.
Tacoma Power was created in 1893 when Tacoma
citizens voted to buy the privately owned Tacoma Light & Water Company.
Citizens believe that public ownership and local control would give them
a higher caliber of services as well as the ability to control those
services. The decision paved the way for Tacoma Power to build one of
the finest and most reliable electric systems in the country.
